Grassroots Holiday List 2024
By Carolyn Gevinski
Alone in New York over the holidays? Here’s our bonus Grassroots Magazine list of volunteer opportunities on and around Christmas and New Years Eve!
Please consider the following gift drives, food banks, and more:
My Sisters' Place provides support to survivors of domestic violence. During the holiday season, volunteers can "adopt" a family and receive their holiday wishlist.
Citymeals on Wheels provides festive hand-delivered meals to the elderly on Christmas day, when other food services are closed. Sign up on their website.
The Bowery Mission will be serving hot meals to shelter residents in Tribeca on the days leading up to and including December 25.
City Harvest volunteers participate in food distribution and nutrition education. They have four mobile markets coming up on December 28.
Long Island Cares provides food pantries throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties during the holiday season.
Project Hospitality in Staten Island is an interfaith organization working to serve the homeless. Donate holiday supplies or sign up to volunteer on their website.
NYC Parks has opportunities between Christmas and New Years to clean up and beautify a city park closest to you.
