Mission

Grassroots — grass-roots — gras- rüts.

From Merriam Webster:

Being, originating, or operating at the grass roots; the basic level of society or of an organization as viewed in relation to higher or more centralized positions of power.

A grassroots organization.

Grassroots political support.

Not adapted from or added to an existing facility or operation: totally new.

Just like us. At Grassroots Magazine, we are the first nonprofit news outlet 100% committed to educating New Yorkers on grassroots movements and creating a web of knowledge about this vital space.

We will:

  • Provide a platform where grassroots movements in New York City can learn from one another.

  • Publish stories that hold institutions of power and new grassroots movements accountable.

  • Be the first to update New Yorkers on the impact and development of these actions and cover recent changes in the space.

  • Highlight how local government is helping these organizations flourish, analyze the harm political institutions may be inflicting on grassroots movements and local communities, and discuss pathways forward for lawmakers to better support these movements.

  • Cover anything and everything “grassroots” in the five boroughs.
