By Claudia Gohn
For the month of November, Grassroots would like to highlight organizations that provide resources and support for people with housing insecurity.
Here’s Grassroots Magazine’s monthly list of organizations you can seek help from or contribute to:
Coalition for the Homeless: As “the nation’s oldest advocacy and direct service organization helping homeless individuals and families,” the Coalition for the Homeless helps New Yorkers with housing insecurity by providing a wide array of services, including a summer camp for children growing up without a home, food programs, affordable housing programs, and more.
Housing Works: This organization works “to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses that sustain our efforts.” They raise money at their shops, cafes, and events, as well as donations, to support people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
The Doe Fund: This organization works to end housing insecurity, recidivism, and incarceration.
Women in Need: Also called Win, Women in need is the “largest provider of family shelter and supportive housing in New York City” and also provides programming to help with childcare, college readiness, and more.
BronxWorks: BronxWorks is an organization that “helps individuals and families improve their economic and social well-being” by providing programs that provide food, shelter, educational support, and more.
